Introducing the #MetaBlackout
Starting on 9/9 , we’re sending a clear message to #MarkZuckerberg: As the leader of the leading 'free-speech' app, you can ignore our calls and continue censoring pro-Palestine content, but do so at the peril of your organization. We call on everyone: #JewsForGaza, @JVP, @CodePink, Brown People, Indigenous , non-zionist White People, Arabs & non-Arabs, @IfNotNow @GenZForChange, to join us in blocking Meta apps every Monday & Wednesday to fight censorship & bias
We are a coalition of global citizens, fair-minded activists, and individuals from diverse backgrounds, united in our commitment to make a difference. This movement doesn’t have a single face or spokesperson; it is a grassroots effort driven by the collective will of the people. Figures like Miko Peled and Gideon Levy, who embody true humanity through their advocacy, align with the principles of justice and peace we uphold
AIPAC, recognized as the Zionist political arm, is pivotal in advancing a Zionist expansionist agenda through substantial financial influence, channeling tens of millions to sway the Senate, the military-industrial complex, and U.S. foreign policy. This orchestration of power often undermines the rights and existence of indigenous Palestinians, contributing to their displacement and adversity
Organized boycotts are effective, yet often fall short against AIPAC's vast influence and resources. We propose leveraging the current Starbucks boycott's momentum by targeting Starbucks, McDonald's, and Disney, and demanding they fund an approved pro-Palestine lobby with a $50M commitment each, or face continued boycotts.
No we are not, nor are we equipped to be. AIPAC channels significant funds to influence U.S. policy, often at the expense of indigenous Palestinians. Recognizing this, we are calling for a new, well-equipped and well-funded pro-Palestine lobby to counter AIPAC and see justice delivered.
Involving capitalism in fighting for Palestinian liberation taps into the power of corporations, which have long influenced politics since the days of early colonial conquests. By adopting a "no justice, no profits" strategy, we aim to make it costly for businesses to ignore justice, using economic leverage to push for change and support Palestinian rights.
Want to make a real impact? Start with your wallet. Boycotting just three key corporations can show the strength of our collective economic power. You might not make every protest, but choosing where to spend your money is an easy yet powerful way to stand for justice. Let's unite our efforts and make a difference. Sign the petition and pledge to boycott by June 21st
Imagine traditional boycotts as wooden arrows, effective in their aim but limited in scope. In contrast, the Boycott-to-Lobby method is like launching fiery arrows, capable of delivering a more devastating blow and potentially altering the landscape significantly. These fiery arrows do more than hit a single target; they can ignite systemic change, quickly and with far-reaching effects. Analogies aside, traditional boycotts as championed by the BDS movement, focus primarily on withdrawal and abstention; consumers avoid products and businesses in protest against Israel's occupation of Palestine. These actions, while morally resonant and capable of rallying public support, often diffuse without forcing substantive corporate or political change. They represent a foundational but incomplete method of advocacy; they are the spark without necessarily the fire.
The Boycott-to-Lobby movement is about transformation, not just rejection. It builds on the momentum of boycotts to prompt significant financial and political shifts in how corporations operate. We focus on major companies like Starbucks, McDonald’s, and Disney because they have the resources and public visibility to make a real difference. These corporations are influential players in both the economy and politics, deeply involved in shaping policies both globally and locally.
Our demand is clear and pragmatic: these corporations must redirect their substantial financial clout towards supporting an approved pro-Palestine lobby. We propose a direct financial commitment: a $50 million annual contribution to a 'CounterAIPAC' lobby. This lobby will operate as a formidable adversary to AIPAC, advocating for policies that promote justice and peace for Palestinians. For example, whereas AIPAC is dedicated to facilitating the growth of illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, Counter AIPAC would actively lobby against such activities, advocating for policies that halt and reverse settlement growth. Additionally, in response to ridiculous legislation like the Anti Semitism Awareness Act, which intentionally conflates valid criticism of Israel with actual antisemitism, CounterAIPAC would strive to maintain a clear distinction, opposing overreaching bills that stifle free speech. Another strategic focus would be challenging U.S. military aid packages to Israel that do not explicitly require adherence to international law and human rights standards, ensuring that American aid does not contribute to violations in conflict zones. These actions aim to correct the imbalance in current U.S. foreign policy and advocate for a fair and just treatment of Palestinians in international forums.
This strategy transcends mere economic pressure; it strategically employs it to foster sustained political advocacy. By transitioning from street protests to engaging in policy-making, the Boycott-to-Lobby movement not only resists but proactively engages with the structures of power. It's a nuanced approach that leverages economic influence for political change, aiming to reshape policies for justice and peace.
While traditional boycotts under the BDS banner operate with an admirable goal, the Boycott-to-Lobby (BtL) movement redefines the economic and political dynamics of activism. Unlike the often unyielding stance of classic boycotts, BtL offers embattled corporations a pathway to redemption and a practical 'stop loss' strategy. By engaging directly with these corporations, we present them with a viable alternative: invest in justice or continue to face economic decline. This pragmatic approach does not claim superiority over BDS but highlights our unique strategy, finding a critical intersection between institutional influence and consumer power.
Imagine Starbucks, a brand embroiled in controversy and facing declining sales due to a targeted boycott led by the socially conscious Gen-Z, evaluating its options. The proposition of a $50 million philanthropic investment in the future of Palestinians represents more than charity—it's a strategic investment in improving corporate image and stabilizing the market. As Starbucks watches its stock price drop like a falling knife, with a staggering $35 billion loss in market value to date (Oct 2023 - May 2024), such a move could help regain a foothold not only in the Middle Eastern market—a significant region for global brands aiming for expansion—but also recapture the crucial Gen-Z market in the United States. Moreover, this investment could steer public perception positively, potentially uplifting the company's stock price and guiding it towards a more sustainable and ethical business model. The very act of considering this shift can signify a new chapter not only for the company but for the landscape of corporate responsibility toward geopolitical issues.
This evolved form of boycott—the BtL movement—acts as a bridge linking direct action to legislative influence. Over the years, our collective efforts have accumulated a vast reserve of public support, akin to tinder awaiting a spark. The Boycott-to-Lobby approach could very well be that spark, igniting a powerful engine of change powered by both grassroots activism and strategic lobbying.
Indeed, BDS is significant and effective, as history has shown. Working to counter AIPAC and its relentless efforts to promote a supremacist Zionist agenda in mainstream US politics is also crucial. Fortunately, the majority of young Americans reject the Zionist/right-wing approach. However, it is unfortunate that the majority of government officials represent what might be called "Old America," sometimes characterized by a dogmatic stance, as exemplified by Lindsey Graham. If BDS is the tip of the iceberg, countering AIPAC is the whole of it!
Need we say more?
First of all, what an eloquent and courageous young man. It's unfortunate that young America does not hold power at this time. Secondly, how is such an explicit level of 'conflict of interest' allowed in the highest office of the country?
